896,559. String cutters. LESTER, F.A. Oct. 3, 1960 [Oct. 3, 1959], No. 33597/59. Class 30. A string &c. cutter comprises a cutting blade at one end of a handle which affords a guideway for the string towards the blade, the cutter being held captive on the unsevered length of string of which a length sufficient to be grasped is left free after severance. The handle 11 is made of wood, metal or plastic, a section 13 of the twopart head being detachably secured for replacement of the razor blade 17. Holes 23, 24 and a channel-section groove 26 form the guideway for the string 29 which is prevented from reverse movement through the cutter by a plate 27 having a V-shaped slot. A modified form consists of a strip of metal having a V-slot formed with an integral cutting edge and two through apertures to form the guideway and in further modifications reverse movement of the string is prevented by a wedge-shaped member or by friction in the guideway which terminates close to the cutting blade but is open-sided near the blade so that a graspable length of string falls free when the cutter is tilted.
