932,984. Finishing yarns. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. Nov. 2, 1961 [Nov. 17, 1960], No. 39336/61. Class 120 (3). Apparatus for stretching and crimping thermoplastic, e.g. nylon, yarn, comprises a frame which mounts a pair of rotatable crimping members, e.g. meshed gears, and a nozzle directing a cooling medium, e.g. air, on to one member. As shown, cold-drawable yarn 10, composed of continuous filaments which have not been fully oriented, supplied from a package 11, passes around (and is tensioned by) a snubbing bar 13, through withdrawal niprollers 15 and several turns around a heated stretch pin 16 whereat most attenuation of the yarn occurs. Yarn then passes several wraps around an idler roll 25 and between gear-driven crimping gears 17 and 18, on to the former of which a stream of compressed air is directed from a nozzle 34 extending between the yarn wraps. Crimped yarn is taken-up by a ring- twisting assembly 27.
|
