A multi-stage, multi-port optical isolator comprises first and second isolating stages coupled together by means of a totally internally reflective Porro prism 320. The first and second isolating stages comprise a beam splitter for splitting input beams into sub-beams based on polarisation of the input beam, non reciprocal rotating means 314 for rotating light passing therethrough in a polarisation dependent manner and means for combining light that has been split in to sub-beams. The non-reciprocal rotating means may comprise a waveplate and a Faraday rotator 314. |
