A vehicle steering apparatus (1) includes a jacket (15) for rotatably supporting a steering shaft (3), and an electric motor (6). The electric motor (6) includes an annular rotor (26) arranged coaxially with the steering shaft (3) and rotating together with the steering shaft (3). The jacket (15) includes a tubular upper jacket (17) and a tubular lower jacket (18) that are fitted into each other and are moved axially relative to each other in the collision of a vehicle. An annular space (S1) surrounding the steering shaft (3) is provided radially inside the rotor (26). A part of the upper jacket (17) enters the annular space (S1) in the collision of the vehicle.
