An LCD is provided to increase the aperture ratio and transmittance of the LCD by forming a light blocking member only in an area corresponding to a TFT(Thin Film Transistor) and increase the viewing angle of the LCD by forming square pixel electrodes and the cutoff portion of a common electrode. An LCD includes a first substrate, a gate line(129), a data line(179), a TFT, a pixel electrode(191), a sustaining electrode(131), a second substrate, a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer. The gate line is formed on the first substrate. The TFT is connected to the gate line and the data line. The pixel electrode is connected to the TFT, includes a first pixel electrode(9a) and a second pixel electrode(9b), and part of the pixel electrode is overlapped with the data line. The sustaining electrode is formed on the first substrate, is disposed between the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode, and has part overlapped with the pixel electrode. The second substrate faces the first substrate. The common electrode is formed on the second substrate and has a cutoff portion(27) corresponding to the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode. The liquid crystal layer is formed between the common electrode and the pixel electrode. The first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode are a square with round corners. |
