In a fluid bearing having a shaft and a journal made from mild steel, the shaft is chromiumplated and the journal is coated by an alloy comprising 66% cobalt, 26% chromium, 5% tungsten, 1% carbon and 2% impurities; said alloy being flame-sprayed on to the journal and fused. Alternatively, the journal is chromium-plated and the shaft coated &c. by the alloy. The fusing process eliminates surface porosity.</p> |
