An SMS(Short Message Service) supply device using digital broadcasting and a method are provided to capture a screen of broadcasting data received in a digital broadcasting portable terminal to conveniently generate the screen as a short message for SMS transmission, thereby improving a user's convenience by automatically writing the short message by using digital broadcasting data. A portable terminal receives broadcasting data of a digital broadcasting service(901). The terminal captures a screen of the received broadcasting data according to a user's request(903,905). The terminal extracts text within the captured broadcasting data, and processes the extracted text as an index of a short message(907). The terminal writes a short message which includes the text extracted from the broadcasting data as contents(909-917).
