PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which has sufficient color conversion ability to attain desired wavelength distribution, and by which high electronic characteristics (carrier transfer characteristics) can be obtained at the same time. SOLUTION: The organic EL element is provided with an organic EL layer which is sandwiched between a pair of electrodes. The organic EL layer includes at least a carrier recombination layer and one or several carrier uncombined layers. The carrier recombination layer emits EL light by recombination of carriers which are implanted into the organic EL layer. The carrier uncombined layer is composed of one host material, one or several kinds of PL emitting dye materials which emit PL light at lower energy than EL light and a carrier transport material. In this case, the carrier transport material exhibits higher carrier transport properties than those of the host material, and the distance is 15 nm or more between the carrier recombination layer and the carrier uncombined layer.
