PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the operating time required for automatic focusing. SOLUTION: When the illuminance of a subject to be imaged is low, an AF auxiliary light control section 62 controls auxiliary light so that the auxiliary light to supplement the illuminance is turned on, a drive range setting section 63 sets the range of movement of a focus lens so as to correspond to an AF auxiliary light reachable distance which the turned-on auxiliary light reaches, an AF control section 64 controls the movement of the focus lens so as to detect a wave within the set range of movement.
