PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make input operation simplified and fast so as to enhance its usability without requiring acquisition of special operation. SOLUTION: The device includes an input operation part for sequentially and continuously outputting a plurality of handwritten patterns input by handwriting; a recognition part for obtaining a recognized character pattern from the handwritten pattern; a character dictionary part for storing a part of a radical of kanji and its character component as the character data other than a single character; a character conversion part for extracting a plurality of the character candidates including the recognized character pattern in their configurations; a character buffer for holding a plurality of the extracted character candidates and outputting, in a butch, each of the character candidates when there are a plurality of the recognized character patterns; an idiom conversion part for extracting, from the idiom dictionary part, idiom candidates matching a combination of a plurality of the character candidates given from the character buffer; a display part for displaying the handwriting pattern, the character candidates the idiom candidates the character data fixed in the conversion and the idiom data fixed in the conversion.
