Process for obtaining vitreous fibres which is based on fusing and subsequently forming fibres from mixtures of cutting and polishing slate residues with other industrial residues in order to obtain low-viscosity fused compositions, characterized in that the fusion mixture is composed of ground slate residues (50% to 90% by weight), dry red clay from the Bayer process (5% to 35% by weight) and ground mussel shells (5% to 35% by weight), at temperatures of between 1200 and 1700ºC. The mixture is fused in a suitablecrucible, in a gas furnace, a conventional electric furnace, an induction furnace, a microwave furnace, or a solar furnace. Fibres are then formed manually or automatically from the fused mixture. The fused mass has conventional industrial applications for obtaining vitreous or vitroceramic pieces, small plates, tiles, paving and similar materials using conventional casting, extrusion, thermal recrystallization and other similar processes.
|
