An apparatus and a method for controlling an output of a mobile terminal are provided to allow a user to select a menu in a magnified screen image. A controller outputs an image indicating a current state of a mobile terminal on a display unit(201) and checks whether a user requests magnifying of a screen image(203). If a screen image magnifying request is checked, the controller checks whether magnifying point information has been previously stored in a memory unit(205). If magnifying point information has not been stored, the controller obtains positions of previously defined magnifying points(207), magnifies an image of the checked positions and outputs it on a display unit(209). The controller checks whether the user requests restoration of the screen image(211). When the screen image restoration request is detected, the controller restores the magnified screen image to have the same size as that of the original screen image(213).
