904,213. Bomb doors on aircraft. FAIREY CO. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1958], No. 3803/58. Class 4. A bomb bay 11 in an aircraft fuselage 10 is closed by two adjacent doors 16, 18 which are operatively connected to move from positions in which they complete the fuselage contour, through the mid-positions shown in the Figure and back to their adjacent positions, door 16 completing a rotation of 180 degrees. Bombs 12, 13 are mounted on the normally upper surface of door 16 for enclosure within the bomb-bay and when the full door-movement has been completed, with a rotation of door 16 through 180 degrees, the bombs lie outside the fuselage for dropping from bomb slips which are housed within the depth of the door 16. The doors are operated by a jack 40 having a piston rod connected to the common pivot of two rods 41, 42 respectively pivoted at 44 to the fuselage and at 32 to a lever 33 fasf with door 16 for rotation about axis 17, and to a rod 31. The other end of rod 31 is pivoted at 30 to one arm of a bell-crank 25 pivoted at 28 to the fuselage, the other arm of the bell-crank having a connection 35 with an arm 37 fast with door 18 for rotation about a pivot 19. Partial contraction of the jack swings the doors to the positions shown and full contraction rotates door 16 to its inverted position, with the bombs exposed, and door 18 back to its original position. A linkage as shown is provided at each end of the bomb-bay and there may be a jack at one or both ends. A further door 14 is provided to provide access to the bomb bay when the doors 16, 18 are in their normal closing positions. |
