PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a lesion from being overlooked by acquiring clear images continued in an insertion direction regardless of an insertion speed. SOLUTION: The endoscope system 1 comprises: a light source 2; an insertion part 3 inserted to a living body for guiding irradiation light from the light source 2 and return light from the living body; a deflection optical system 10 provided on the distal end for directing the irradiation light guided through the insertion part 3 to the outside in the radial direction of the insertion part 3 and introducing the return light from the living body toward the inside in the radial direction of the insertion part 3 into the insertion part 3; an imaging means 4 for imaging the return light guided through the insertion part 3; an insertion speed detection means 5 for detecting the insertion speed of the insertion part 3; a frame rate adjusting means 6 for adjusting a frame rate for performing imaging by the imaging means 4 corresponding to the detected insertion speed; an image forming means 7 for arraying strip-like images obtained by the imaging means 4 by a pitch based on the insertion speed and forming the image inside the living body; and a display means 8 for displaying the formed image.
