COAXIAL CABLE HAVING LOW SURFACE COEFFICIENT OF FRICTION AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF

A coaxial cable having low surface coefficient of friction, the coaxial cable having a central conductor; insulation surrounding the central conductor; shielding surrounding the insulation; a first sheath surrounding the shielding; and a second sheath surrounding the first sheath; the second sheath incorporating at least one lubricating agent based on a fatty acid amide such as, for example, oleamide and erucamide, which migrates towards the external surface of the coaxial cable; and the first sheath preventing such lubricating agent migrating towards the shielding. The second sheath is much thinner than the first sheath such that the quantity of lubricating agent migrating towards the first sheath is dissipated therein without reaching the shielding. There is also described a method of manufacture of the coaxial cable having a low surface coefficient of friction, which method involves the steps of extruding insulation around a central conductor; surrounding the insulation with shielding; extruding a first sheath around the shielding; and coextruding a second sheath around the first sheath; the second sheath incorporating at least one lubricating agent migrating towards the external surface of the coaxial cable; the first sheath preventing the lubricating agent migrating towards the shielding.
