PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assist device of an automatic transmission, which enables range changing operation in the case of a failure by mechanically connecting a selecting lever to a selecting position changing device, and can improve a degree of freedom of layout by making the selecting lever compact, and further can achieve the selecting lever operating force characteristic suitable for a requirement. SOLUTION: A controller 3 comprises a first drive command calculating section 31 for performing the calculation of the feed-forward control using the ratio of a normal model which has an ideal response characteristic of an operating position for an operated position to a plant model to be set as a response characteristic of the actual operating position, and a second drive command calculating section 33 for performing the calculation of the feed-back control for approaching the detected value of the operating position toward the target operating position to be set from the operated position.
