PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic control device of a vehicle capable of preventing erroneous failure history from being acquired while securing the reliability of data, and a method of checking failure information. SOLUTION: When failure history data is read out, first to third data are acquired from the divided three zones of an EEPROM. If mismatch data is absent in the decision by majority after a majority processing is performed, failure information is defined as "1 ( failure history is present)" or "0 (failure history is absent)" by determining whether the result of the decision by majority is "1" or not (steps 101 to 106). When mismatch data is present and the result of the decision by majority is "1", it is determined whether failure-related data is stored in an EEPROM or not.
