PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of projecting a sharp image over a wide area even in projecting an image on a solid object, and to provide an image projecting method. SOLUTION: The projector sequentially projects partial images (i.e., images where defocus areas are masked) corresponding to focused small areas while altering focusing position, which is a small area where a solid object T is in focus, cyclically a1→a2→...a7→a8→a7...→a2→a1→a2→... This is repeated until a user gives an instruction to finish. This operation (i.e., the alteration of the focusing position, and the projection of each corresponding partial image) are performed in a cycle of, for example, approximately 1/60 seconds for a forward direction (a1→a8), that is, in a cycle of approximately 1/30 seconds for forward and backward directions (a1→a8→a1). Thus, a user (viewer) perceive as if images are simultaneously projected on the entire projected area of the solid object T by a residual image phenomenon. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
