PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film suitable for electric insulation use, even when copolymerization component is in a small amount, high in suppressing effects of delamination and oligomer, keeping high mechanical strength inherent in polyester, and especially suppressed in surface deposition of oligomer even at high temperatures in use. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film for electric insulation comprises an aromatic polyester containing 0.5-10.0 mol% dihydroxy compound represented by general formula (1) based on whole acid components as the copolymerization component of diol components.
