A system for operating substitute vehicle driving by using a gift certificate and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to receive a substitute vehicle driving service by using the gift certificate which can be purchased like in a convenience store with a credit card in case that the user does not have enough cash or is located in a place where the user can not withdraw cash. A system for operating substitute vehicle driving by using a gift certificate comprises an authentication number receiver(110), a substitute vehicle driving information registering unit(120), a settlement processor(130), a substitute vehicle driving information generator(140) and an effectiveness determinating unit(150). The authentication number receiver(110) receives an authentication number of a gift certificate from a terminal of a driver. The substitute vehicle driving information registering unit(120) registers the received authentication information at the substitute vehicle driving information of a corresponding driver. The settlement processor(130) settles a substitute vehicle driving cost with a payment tool registered for the corresponding driver by referring to the substitute vehicle driving information. The substitute vehicle driving information generator(140) arranges a driver and generates substitute vehicle driving information of the arranged driver at the request for the substitute vehicle driving from the terminal of the driver. The effectiveness determining unit(150) determines the effectiveness of the authentication number of the gift certificate received from the terminal of the driver.
