<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that a panning image is erroneously detected as a fade in a fade method based on an inter-frame difference not accompanied with conventional motion compensation, and that fade detection may be missed in a fade method based on the inter-frame difference accompanied with the conventional motion compensation. <P>SOLUTION: In a fade detecting apparatus according to the present invention, a moving image is divided into block units of a specified size, and a difference of motion vectors is calculated from a first motion vector between a first frame image and a second frame image temporally preceding to the first frame image and a second motion vector between the first frame image and a third frame image temporally following the first frame image. The total number of blocks in each of which the difference of the motion vectors exceeds a first threshold value, is calculated and in the case where a ratio of the total number of blocks in each of which the difference exceeds the first threshold value, and the total number of divided blocks exceeds a second threshold value, a first true value is outputted and when the number of frames continued in a period of time during which the first true value is outputted is calculated and the number of true value frames exceeds a third threshold value, it is discriminated as a fade. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
