PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detector for a vehicle capable of imaging/detecting an detection object existing in a cabin, using a specified wavelength zone of a near infrared ray, and capable of precluding a contrast in relation to the sun light from getting worse. SOLUTION: The occupant detector 10 includes a photoreception element (CMOS element 33) for receiving light from an inside of the cabin, and a signal processing part 12 for processing a signal detected by the photoreception element, and detects an occupant in the cabin by the signal processing part, based on an image signal obtained by the photoreception element. The detector includes a band-pass filter 35 having a band with a transmission band substantially the same to an absorption spectral band 63 of the sun light, and for selecting a wavelength of the light received with the photoreception element, by the transmission band.
