PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which facilitates abandoning of dust and has therefore enhanced user-friendliness. SOLUTION: A dust collection box 8 comprises: a main body part 10 which opens a communication port 9 communicating with a hose to be put through from an intake port 2, and stores the dust; and a lid body part 14 which is journaled by the main body part 10 in an openable and closable manner and is provided with a filter 13 for removing the dust contained in the air to be sucked to the main body part 10 by driving an electric blower. The main body part 10 is formed in a substantially rectangular shape where the depth dimension 20 is made to be smaller than the width dimension 22 and the height dimension 21. Thus, the pressurizing and expanding force of the dust works in the opening center part direction (an abandoning direction) of the main body part 10 through the use of both side surface walls of the main body part 10, so that the dust compressed in the main body part 10 is discharged from the opening of the main body part 10 so as to be bend from the center part. Consequently, the separation of the compressed and collected dust from the main body part 10 is promoted to improve the abandoning of the dust. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
