A digital camera is constituted of a main body and an image display unit which is selectively and removably attached to a front or a rear surface of the main body. When the image display unit is attached to the rear surface, a first menu screen is displayed on an LCD of the image display unit, and operation modes are limited to a still image capture mode, a movie capture mode, and a reproduction mode. When the image display unit is attached to cover the entire front surface, a second menu screen is displayed on the LCD, and the operation modes are limited to an image viewer mode and a music player mode. When the image display unit is attached to a position close to a lateral surface on the front surface, a taking lens is exposed, and the digital camera is set to a self capture mode.
