PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible actuator for transmitting a large load from a user to an end effector, a manufacturing method thereof and a using method. SOLUTION: In one illustrated embodiment, a flexible actuator 22 extends from a handle of a medical device 10 to an end effector 14 located on a distal end of the medical device. The actuator includes a head 24 formed on a terminal end thereof 22b, and the head includes at least one planar surface 24a that is approximately coplanar with an outer surface of the flexible actuator. In use, the actuator can be coupled to a medical device having an end effector located on a distal end thereof. Tension applied to the actuator can be effective to actuate the end effector.
