PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition that has high safety to dogs and excellent ameliorating and preventing effect on spondylosis deformans. SOLUTION: The ameliorant for spondylosis deformans comprises a xylooligosaccharide composition, in which its xylose polymer has an average polymerization degree of≥4 and≤20, as an active ingredient. Preferably the xylooligosaccharide composition is obtained by treating a lignocellulose material enzymatically and/or physicochemically to give a complex of a xylooligosaccharide component and a lignin component and then subjecting the complex to acid hydrolysis.
