Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having good charge/discharge cycle characteristics. Specifically disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising a negative electrode containing silicon as negative electrode active material, a positive electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The average particle diameter of the negative electrode active material is not less than 5 mum and not more than 20 mum, and the weight of the negative electrode active material is not less than 10% by weight of the weight of the nonaqueous electrolyte.
