The invention relates to a method for producing a photonic crystal which consists of a material with a high refractive index, comprising the followin g steps: (a) Provision of a polymer structure with cross-linked air voids wi th surfaces displaying empty interstitial lattice sites; (b) Application of a homogeneous, isotropic thin coating material on the surfaces of the polyme r structure; (c) Introduction of a highly refractive material; (d) Opening o f an access to the polymer or coating material applied according to step (b) ; (e) Removal of the layer applied in step (b); (f) Removal of the polymer s tructure.
