PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blade drive device for camera, the blade drive device being designed such that although two shutter blades, a light quantity control blade having a light quantity control aperture, and an auxiliary blade for a light quantity control blade are arranged in a single blade-chamber, the device is formed in a compact size by making the light quantity control blade and auxiliary blade almost identical in size. SOLUTION: In a blade chamber formed between a base plate 1 and an auxiliary base plate 2, the shutter blade 3, the shutter blade 4, the auxiliary shutter blade 5 and the diaphragm blade 6 are arranged in this order from the base plate 1 side. They are rotatably mounted on blade shafts 1d, 1e, 1f, and 1g respectively. The shutter blades 3 and 4 are reciprocally rotated by a drive pin 7 in opposite directions at the same time. The auxiliary blade 5 and diaphragm blade 6 are reciprocally rotated at different speeds in the same direction at the same time. Accordingly, despite the substantially identical sizes of the auxiliary blade 5 and diaphragm blade 6, the end edges of blades are prevented from colliding against one another even if the blades incline during their operations or bound when they stop.
