A portable wireless unit where degradation in antenna performance due to electromagnetic interaction between two antenna elements is suppressed, and both high enhancement effect of diversity gain and excellence in terms of design and operability are satisfied at the same time. An upper case (1) and a lower case (2) are connected by a hinge portion (3), a circuit board (8) is placed in the lower case (2), and power feeding terminals (7, 20) are arranged spaced from each other on the circuit board (8) at an interval of ?/20 or more. Further, a whip antenna (9) is provided in the lower case (2) and connected to the circuit board (8) through the power feeding terminal (7). A metal frame (13) is provided in the upper case (1) and connected to the circuit board (8) through the hinge portion (3) and the power feeding terminal (20). A dipole antenna is constituted of the metal frame (13) and a ground pattern of the circuit board (8) together with the hinge portion (3). Diversity receiving operation is performed based on the outputs from the dipole antenna and whip antenna (9).
