A printing device is provided to determine whether or not the front and rear surfaces of the roll paper are normally disposed, exactly regardless of the quality of a sensor. A printing device includes a roll paper setting shaft, a roll paper winding shaft, a guide part, a printing part, a sensor, and a controller(30). The sensor detects the check mark used to determine the front surface or the rear surface of the roll paper after the roll paper is set on the roll paper setting shaft, guided by the guide part, and then wound around the roll paper winding shaft. The controller(30) determines whether or not the roll paper is normally set, based on the detection result of the sensor.
