A method and a device for setting printing options are provided to solve inconvenience of setting a setting value of the printing options by representing the setting values in an integer or character type code value and inputting the code value of the printing options. A setting information definer(856) stores a plurality of fields respectively storing the preset setting value of each printing option and reserved fields for respectively storing the setting value of an extensible printing option. A printing option setting part(858a) generates a printing option setting screen displaying the current code values converted by corresponding to the preset setting values and the setting values stored in the fields and the reserved field if the user requests setup of the printing options applied to a target document. A code interpreter(858b) converts the changed setting values into the code values of a preset format. A driver controller(858c) controls the printing option setting part to display the converted code values on the printing option setting screen by replacing the existing code values with the converted code values.
