<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle discrimination system which can distinguish a large amount of static vehicle image data into each vehicle type by high speed processing. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle discrimination system converts equally spaced pixels of a captured image into brightness components; processes those using a differential filter; determines and counts a value being equal or more than a predetermined value among the obtained changes; discriminates vehicle captured in target image on the basis of the obtained count. The count varies depending on a size of an object captured into the captured image. That is, the larger occupied image, the greater the count, and the smaller occupied image, the smaller the count.
