PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively diminish output volume of a playback device consisting of video equipment, audio equipment or a complex machine of them according to output volume before diminution by an operation of a one-touch key by simple processing with extremely small storage capacity and processing burdens. SOLUTION: An operation part of a remote control terminal 3 of a television receiver 1 is provided with a submute key, the output volume of the receiver 1 when the key is operated is stored in a nonvolatile memory part 8 as reference volume, whether or not the reference value is K times or more the set specified volume of diminution is judged, the output volume of the receiver 1 is diminished to volume lower than the reference value by the specified amount of diminution when the reference volume is K times or more the specified amount of diminution based on the judgment result, the output volume of the receiver 1 is diminished to (K-1)/K of the reference volume when the reference volume is smaller than K times the specified volume and the output volume of the receiver 1 is returned to the reference volume of the operation of the submute key after diminution by a control part 6.
