A display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to enhance quality of moving images by shortening a time for maintaining brightness around a maximum gray scale. In a display apparatus, a frame period is divided into at least first and second subframe periods(1SF,2SF). When a maximum gray scale is displayed during the frame period, a first brightness(Lmax1) during a first subframe period is greater than 1/2 of a second brightness(Lmax2) during a second subframe period and smaller than 9/10 of the second brightness. The frame period is divided into first, second, and third subframe periods. When a maximum gray scale is displayed during the frame period, a maximum brightness during the third subframe period is equal to or smaller than 1/10 of the maximum brightness of the first and second subframe periods. |
