A paper sheet identification device is provided to enhance identification accuracy of a paper sheet irrespective of a slant degree of the paper sheet by slantingly arranging an optical line sensor. A paper sheet identification device includes a transfer path, a line sensor(23) and an identification unit(35). A paper sheet is transferred along the transfer path. The line sensor includes plural detectors, which are arranged in one row in a transfer width direction on the transfer path. The identification unit identifies the paper sheet based on image data of the paper sheet, which is read at the line sensor. An arrangement direction of the detectors is slanted from the transfer width direction of the transfer path.
