摘要 A display device and a driving method thereof are provided to increase brightness of a light source unit corresponding to a low-brightness emission and display area unit to obtain low display brightness for a dark image uniformly. A display part is formed by a transmissive LCD having a display area(11) including pixels arranged in a matrix configuration. A backlight(40) includes light source units(42) individually disposed corresponding to a plurality of display area units constituting the display area, and illuminates a back surface of the display part. A driving unit drives the display part and the backlight on the basis of an input signal from the outside. The driving unit includes a controller(70) controlling an illumination state of the light source unit corresponding to the display area unit on the basis of a maximum input signal within the display area unit, which has a maximum value of an input signal corresponding to each display area unit. The controller checks whether a low-brightness emission and display area unit having the maximum input value in the display area unit which is lower than a first set value exists, and checks whether a high-brightness emission and display area unit having the maximum input signal in the display area unit which is the same as or higher than a second set value which is greater than the first set value exists. When the high-brightness emission and display area unit exists around the low-brightness emission and display area unit, the controller increases brightness of the light source unit corresponding to the low-brightness emission and display area unit.
