PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle traveling control device and a method thereof capable of suppressing shock in stopping of the own vehicle. SOLUTION: The vehicle traveling control device 1 is equipped with a braking device 5 which applies a deceleration braking force for stopping the own vehicle or a stop holding braking force for holding a stopping state of the own vehicle to the own vehicle, a wheel speed sensor 4 for detecting a vehicle speed of the own vehicle, a switching part 23a of a stop holding control part 23 which switches a braking force applied to the own vehicle by the braking device 5 from the deceleration braking force to the stop holding braking force after a detection impossible state where the detection of the wheel speed of the own vehicle cannot be detected by the wheel speed sensor 4n, and a switching interval setting part 23b which sets the switching interval for switching the braking force applied to the own vehicle by the braking device 5 from the deceleration braking force to the stop holding braking force after the detection impossible state based on the amount of the braking force applied to the own vehicle in the detection impossible state.
