METHOD FOR PRODUCING ALKOXYPHENOL-FORMIC ACID ESTERS AND ALKOXYPHENOLS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially efficiently producing an alkoxyphenol-formic acid ester containing methoxy groups or benzyloxy groups at the 3-position and the 4-position and an alkoxyphenol containing methoxy groups or benzyloxy groups at the 3-position and the 4-position. SOLUTION: The method for producing an alkoxyphenol-formic acid ester containing methoxy groups or benzyloxy groups at the 3-position and the 4-position comprises oxidizing an alkoxybenzaldehyde containing methoxy groups or benzyloxy groups at the 3-position and the 4-position with a percarboxylic acid in the presence of formic acid. The amount of formic acid used is preferably 0.8-20 mols based on 1 mol of the alkoxybenzaldehyde. A 1-7C percarboxylic acid is preferable as the percarboxylic acid. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
