System and method for processing alphanumeric characters for display on a data processing device

A system is described comprising: character analysis logic configured at a data service to analyze original content requested by a data processing device, the original content containing one or more original characters; a database containing display capabilities and limitations of said data processing device; the character analysis logic being further configured to determine, based on the analysis and the database, whether any original characters within the original content are not displayable by the data processing device; and character conversion logic configured at the data service to convert the original content into unoriginal content comprised of one or more displayable characters if one or more of the original characters are not displayable by the data processing device, each of the displayable characters corresponding to one or more of the original characters which are not displayable on the data processing device; wherein the data service is configured to transmit the converted content to the data processing device.
