The plug has a casing (60) holding a radiator (30), which extends in an axial direction, from its radial outer side. A housing (10) has a front end surface and is connected with a rear end of the casing by a welding area (12), where the welding area is extended along a periphery between the front end surface of the housing and a rear turned end surface. A support layer (11) is formed on an outer peripheral surface of the housing and is limited to the welding area. The front end surface is in direct contact with the rear turned end surface within the welding area. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a glow plug.
