A lighting device and an LCD are provided to change a lighting period and a quantum of a lighting intensity of each light source to control emission quantity of light of each light source. A plurality of light sources emits light of different colors. A lighting-period varying unit(182) varies a lighting period of each light source. A light emission varying unit(181) varies light emission intensity of each light source. The light emission quantity of each light source is controlled by controlling the lighting-period varying unit and the light emission varying unit. A detection unit detects the light emission quantity of each light source. The control unit controls the lighting-period varying unit and the light emission intensity varying unit on the basis of a detection result of the detection unit.
