PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polypeptide having enhanced physicochemical or biological activity. SOLUTION: The polypeptide having proteolytic activity is at least about 80% homologous to naturally existing thrombin, and the ratio of protein C activation activity to a fibrinogen coagulation activity is less than about a half of the thrombin or larger than about twice. Therein, the polypeptide is not the above-mentioned thrombin, thrombin E25K, or the like, thrombin in which at least one amino acid residue within the thrombin activation site has been substituted or deleted, or a residue inserted adjacent to such an amino acid residue, or thrombin in which loop F19-E25 is replaced by the equivalent loop from tissue plasminogen activator.
