In a method of manufacturing shoes, a lining 8 and an upper 17 are closed together along their top lines, the lining is closed to conform to the last and the upper is closed to the heel and along the bottom of the waist, and a combined insole waist and heel stiffener 25 is inserted through the open bottom forepart 27 of the upper, the lining and upper being shaped to conform to the stiffener and to accommodate it snugly between them. The waist and heel stiffener used may be as described in Specification 939,387 and may terminate at the front of the waist. A separate insole forepart with or without a toe puff 26 may be incorporated between the lining and the upper. The insole waist and heel stiffener may be moulded with an embedded metal shank 29, the heel of the shoe being affixed to this shank.</p> |
