SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD, OPTICAL PICKUP DEVICE, AND OPTICAL DISC DRIVE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the thickness and size of a semiconductor device used for reading and writing on a rewritable optical disc, and to provide thin and compact optical pickup device and optical disc drive device using the semiconductor device.

SOLUTION: By arranging a semiconductor laser chip 39 having a long resonator length and a high output on a side face 42 of an Si chip 37 along the long side of a package, the semiconductor device 30 wherein the semiconductor laser chip 39 and a light receiving element for signal processing are integrated together can be reduced in thickness and size. By using the semiconductor device 30, the optical pickup device and the optical disc drive device using the optical pickup device can be both reduced in thickness and size.
