PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dark field microscope that eliminates the need for a diaphragm for an objective lens and can illuminate despite a long focal distance condenser lens of a low numerical aperture, and to provide an effective adjusting method for its optical axis. SOLUTION: The dark field microscope includes: a light source that emits illumination light; a condensing optical system incorporating a condensing side condenser lens that condenses illuminating light from the light source and illuminates specimen being observed; and an imaging optical system incorporating an objective lens that receives light scattering from the specimen being observed and forms a magnified image of the specimen. In the dark field microscope, the condensing side condenser lens is the long focal distance lens, and a shading member that intercepts illuminating light is disposed on the back focal plane of the imaging optical system or at the central part of the formed conjugate image.
