Provided is a technique for preventing an erroneous display caused by a change of a discharge characteristic during a reset period especially by a long-time operation of a PDP device. In the PDP device, inclination of the inclined waveform during a reset period is changed according to the operation time of the PDP device. Moreover, the inclined waveform is configured to have a plurality of stepwise inclinations during a predetermined reset period.For example, when the operation time is long, the increasing and the decreasing inclined waveform of the reset waveform is formed by two stages of inclinations. The first inclination is made more precipitous than the inclination before the change and the second inclination is made gentler than the inclination before the change. If the operation continues furthermore, the first inclination is made furthermore precipitous and the second inclination is made further gentler.
