Disclosed is a semiconductor light source comprising a light-emitting device (101) having a plurality of semiconductor layers each composed of a nitride semiconductor, and a drive circuit (102) for driving the light-emitting device (101). The drive circuit (102) performs a forward drive operation for having the light-emitting device (101) emit light by supplying a forward current to the light-emitting device, and a reverse drive operation wherein a reverse bias is applied to the light-emitting device. The size of the reverse bias is restricted by a reverse current flowing through the light-emitting device.
