The invention relates to a method for the enantioselective enzymatic reduction of keto compounds, more particularly of 4-halo-3-oxobutyric acid esters to produce the corresponding R-alcohols and S-4-halo-3-oxobutyric acid esters, using an R-specific oxidoreductase in the presence of a cofactor.
