PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a safety device for a passenger conveyor capable of detecting abnormalities of step rollers provided on steps before the steps sink. SOLUTION: This safety device for the passenger conveyor is provided with the step rollers 3 rotatably provided on the steps 2 of the passenger conveyor and traveling on a step rail 4 provided in a truss 1; sensors 17 arranged in both sides of the step rollers 3 leaving predetermined gaps between the sensors 17 and the step rollers 3 such that the step rollers 3 traveling on the step rail 4 passe between the sensors 17 all the time; and switches 20 operated by energizing the sensors 17 in the traveling direction of the step rollers 3 by the step rollers 3.
